Do you offer domain name registration services?

Yes, our prices are £25+VAT for UK domains and £45+VAT for International domains. All prices include admin fees to the naming authorities and hosting of the domain on our name servers for 2 years.

I've seen domain names for a lot cheaper, what am I paying for?

As well as the cost of the domain you have to pay to have it hosted on our name servers, essential for future use. In addition we have administrative costs to keep track of your domains renewal and invoicing. We also do not make any further charges for domain transfer or management. Our price should re-assure you that you will get a good service without any further hidden charges. A domain registration is rarely just the reservation of a name, sooner or later it requires management and support. Other companies may appear to charge less, but be aware that levels of service may differ, quality of DNS servers (critical to the domains function) may differ, and there may be other hidden charges or reasons behind giving a loss leading service.

Which domains can you register for me?

We can register the following domain types:

Some domain name types have special restrictions. A ltd.uk address, for example, requires a registered Company number

Can I register new top level domains with you such as .biz and .info

At the moment these domains are not available for use by anyone. Many companies are taking pre registrations for the new domains however they can't guarantee that those domains will registered on behalf of their clients. On The Spot feel it would be misleading to offer pre-registration services at this time. As soon as the new names go live we will offer a full registration service.

Can I use an existing domain name with my web space?

Yes, if you own a domain name and wish to transfer it to be hosted with us, this can easily be arranged. The first domain name you transfer for your primary account will be transferred free of any administrative charges. For any additional domain name you wish to transfer we will charge a one off admin fee of £10 each.

How do I transfer the domain to your name servers?

For UK domains such as .co.uk and .org.uk you need to contact your ISP and ask them to change the IPSTAG to ONTHESPOT. They may require a signed fax on headed paper from the registrant before they process the request. Many ISP's have their own methods. If you require assistance contact us and we will be able to find the answers to your questions

For US domains such as .com, .org and .net it is necessary to change the name server records. The new details you require are as follows;

Primary Server Hostname.........: ns1.onthespot.co.uk
Primary Server Netaddress.......: 62.253.244.1

Secondary Server Hostname.......: ns3.onthespot.co.uk
Secondary Server Netaddress.....: 83.138.174.4

If you were given a username and password when you registered the domain you may be able to make these changes yourself. Be warned that some ISP and domain hosts make a charge when transferring away form them. If you have any problems contact us and we will assist you.



May I have more than one domain pointed to my web space?

There is no limit to the number of domains you can have pointing at your web space. Multiple domains can be used as pat of a coordinated online strategy. If you would like advice on how to get the most out of domain names contact us for some more information.

Can I add additional DNS records to my domain?

Advanced users may require individual records updated, added or changed for their domain name. This may be the case for instance if you have your own mail server and wish to have mail exchange records added. We will make administrative changes to your DNS record free of charge so long as these changes do not become more frequent than 10 change requests per year. If you require more frequent changes we reserve the right to charge an additional administration fee.

Who owns my domain name?

The domain name is your property, and you own it.
Should you wish to close your On The Spot Internet web-hosting account, your domain will remain your property and you are free to transfer it elsewhere.

Who pays for domain renewals and how much do they cost?

Every 2 years your domain will come up for renewal. We will pay the renewal fee and send you an invoice which covers the admin fees and the cost of hosting and maintaining the domain for another 2 years. The costs are £25+VAT for a UK domain and £50+VAT for a US domain. We will send you an e-mail reminder to let you know when the domain is coming up for renewal.

Can I use my domain name in conjunction with a Secure site?

To use your domain for secure communication you will require an SSL Certificate which encrypts traffic between the web serve and the user. Once installed your secure web pages can be viewed at https://www.yourdomain.com. The cost is £150+VAT for the first year and £125+VAT per year thereafter.
